Hippo – Chichester Scow No 2

Hippo is one of the original three wooden built Chichester Scows.   They were built by Flight Marine some twelve years ago and formed the moulds from which all the subsequent fibreglass CS dinghies have been built.   She carries the Flight Marine builder’s plaque which guarantees her measurements.  She is built from cedar strip and finished with epoxy, making her maintenance – free.   For anyone wanting a piece of history and/or having the sense to prefer a wooden, rather than a plastic, dinghy Hippo has enormous appeal.   She is in excellent, even superb, condition and is very attractive.   Throughout her life she has been lightly used.

The mast is wood and the spars are metal.   The balance lug-sail is the original and brown, and has a window.    She is complete with all necessary equipment and ready to sail.   She has a launching trolley but no trailer.   The cover is in good condition.

In 2014 she took part in the Chichester Scow national championship at Bosham and finished well in the middle of the fleet.   This suggests that she is definitely competitive, given that her helmsman was well past his sail-by (sic) date and did not know the water.

Hippo is stored under a double tarpaulin which keeps her bone dry at Dorchester SC south of Oxford.   Viewing by appointment.

Enquiries to Richard Taylor at tayloriana@waitrose.com.   Selling price £2,300.

HAWK 20

Built 2006.
New Tohatsu 6HP ‘Saildrive’ outboard with external fuel tank fitted in June 2018.
Includes a bulkhead mounted Compass; an ST60+ Tridata Depth/Speed Instrument and a
Tactic (wireless electronics) wind instrument.
The sails are in good order and include an asymmetric genneker (the ideal lightweight sail
for cruising) with a ‘sock’ for launch and recovery. Lazy jacks are rigged but stowed along
the boom in the picture. These make a big difference when dropping sails. New main and
and jib halyards.
An RM trailer is included in the sale but it is not currently legal for loaded road towing. It
has been used for winter lift outs and the owner is arranging refurbishment of the brakes.
Fitted cabin cushions and four cockpit cushions. Under-boom cockpit tent (never used).
As the draught is only 0.23m with everything up (plate down - 1.3m, rudder 0.68m and engine 0.3m)
you sail up to the beach and only get your ankles wet - the trailer launches and recovers the boat
with the wheels dry.

Dufour Arpege 'Le Reve'

The Dufour Arpege has proved to be a true classic and was the most successful boat ever built by Michel Dufour with over 1500 produced.  Its popularity came from a great reputation for easy handling and fast passage-making.

The boat sleeps 6 – four in the saloon on settee berths and pipe cots together with two large quarter berths aft. Separate heads and sink. Galley has a gimballed two burner stove and built-in ice box.

This fine example has had only 2 owners since new and has been re-engined with the famous Yanmar 3GM for smooth and powerful performance. This was installed by Cutler Marine of Emsworth and serviced annually by them. New engine housing and companionway steps have been incorporated.

Sails by Arun are in excellent condition. Slab reefing main and a Rotostay for the genoa. Winches by Lewmar.  The hull is in tip-top condition, professionally painted recently in Navy Blue.

24' Gaff Cutter

Built in Bosham in 2004 by Ivan Jefferis

Classic lines, very pretty & very manoeuvrable.

I’m wondering if anyone in your club is able to give a home a 50 year old Mirror dinghy.

It has been in my family since constructed in the family garage in 1970. I had taken on repairs to the hull for rot, but forced to the conclusion it is beyond my capacity right now. A cosmetic repair would be easy, but I don’t feel confident in my ability to return it to a seaworthy condition. So, if I cannot sail it any more, I would like to donate it someone in a position to care for it.

It would be an excellent early example of this popular boat.

It is complete, the spars and fittings are original, as is one suit of sails, by Jeckells.

I can also include a Seagull forty plus outboard motor (believed to be 1960’s) that was used with it and period lifejackets.

I attach some photos, and can deliver.

John Bartlett

The 370 dinghy was designed by Stephen Jones for the RYA as in intermediate youth trainer, it was the favoured dinghy untuk someone suggested it should have an asymmetric rig, we always considered it should be symmetrical as a feeder for the 420 and 470 classes.

Foam sandwich contstruction, put performs a 420 in the right hands-its a mini 470 in layout, comes complete with 2x Jibs, Spinnaker, over & under cover trapeze and harness, combi trailer.

Hardly used, open to offers!
