Chris & Lucinda Hitchings, David & Fiona Macfarlane, Iain & Cass Macpherson, Peter Shaw & Jo Lorimer-Green visited the Cayman Islands Sailing Club to race against the locals. The invitation arose during a visit last summer to Bosham by Andrew and Jane Moon, college friends of Lucinda and respectively past Commodore and current social secretary of CISC, after a Tideset race and a convivial Friday evening at BSC with CDB fleet members. The sport was informal, with a set of dinghy races on Saturday and on J22s on Sunday. Given that the CISC dinghy team included two sailors off to the Youth Olympics in China this year, David, Fiona and Peter acquitted themselves well, with some second and third places; On the J22s, local knowledge helped (the race started on a line but, to finish, boats needed to be moored, sails down and the crew sitting at the beach bar) but a boat crewed by Chris and Peter for a local helm managed third place despite the Bosham crew coping with a spectacular ‘skipper overboard’ situation. The boat Fiona was on sported her BSC Flag Officer burgee but it did not seem to help. We were royally entertained by Andrew, Jane and many other CISC members and have proposed that this be a regular event, hosted in Bosham in 2015. We will work on dates.
