We have just had one of the busiest weekends of the year so far and of course everybody wanted to be in Bosham during the beautiful weather – why wouldn’t you? So off we go……..
Please note that the Club 50/50 Lottery draw will now take place on Saturday 14th May not on Friday as per the Red Book. More on this below.
Supper Friday 13th May
Our Chef, Johnnie Gallagher, is having a well-earned short holiday but his colleague Jeff Cardwell, will be taking over the reins for a week. Johnnie and Jeff have cooked together on many previous occasions so Jeff comes very well recommended. The menu is:

Beef Bourguignon £10.00
Chicken with Asparagus Sauce £9.50
Vegetable Lasagne £8.00
All served with Baby Potatoes and seasonal vegetables

Now Saturday 14th May is going to be a very busy day at your Club. Firstly there is
Bosham Sailing Club Annual General Meeting 11:00 in the Clubhouse which all fully paid up Club members are welcome and encouraged to attend. If you bring your old Red Card with you, it will be entered into a prize draw with the winner getting a bottle of champagne.
The Club 50/50 Lottery Draw will take place at the end of the AGM so it is well worth staying to see who the three lucky winners will be, sharing a cash prize of £220. All the details on how to buy your tickets for future lottery draws which help both you and the Club to be winners, are on the Club website in the lottery section.
This will be followed in the evening by “Navigation through the Ages” A talk and presentation by Professor Mike Whittle. 18:00 for a prompt 18:30 start. This will be a fascinating talk and will be of interest not only to sailors but also for anybody who is interested in history and exploration. There is no charge for the talk but why not stay for supper afterwards? Jeff is cooking….
Sweet ‘n Sour Pork £7.00
Chicken Dorsay (bacon and onions) £7.00
Vegetable Curry £7.00
All served with mixed vegetables and rice.
Please reserve your supper and choice of food by emailing email@example.com by 12:00 on Friday 13th May.
Club Draw Saturday 14th May 19:30
This now stands at £320 and this will be drawn after Mike’s talk so provided that you’re at the Club , you have another chance to be a winner on Bosham Sailing Club’s Lucky Saturday!
There is plenty of Club racing on Sunday 15th May. Details are in the Red Book. Please note that for this week only there will be no Sunday roast served. However the full snack menu will be available on both Saturday and Sunday between 12:00 and 14:30.
Please put a note in your diaries that on Saturday 21st May, there will be another evening presentation. This time it is an interview with Rebecca Stephens who was the first British woman to climb Everest and who then went on to scale the Seven Summits, which are the highest mountain on each of the seven continents. This promises to be an enthralling evening and more information will appear on the Club website shortly.
Another very important date for your diary is for the Bosham Masters which will be held in conjunction with the Chichester Scow Nationals on 10th, 11th and 12th June. This event is for those people who are much a bit too old for Junior Week but it promises to be just as much fun. For further details either email firstname.lastname@example.org or click on the trophy picture on the website for all further information. Entries should be made by 29th May.
This is very important so please read the message below from Club Secretary, Steve Shaw:
Members are very welcome to bring their dogs to the Club but dogs must be on a lead at all times. May I also remind members of Item 27 of the Club Bylaws which states that; Dogs (except guide dogs) and other animals are not allowed in the Clubhouse, the Raptackle or the Dinghy Park. However, we recognise that it may be necessary to tether your dog whilst you enter the premises so please tie your dog securely to the white picket fence adjacent to the cycle rack. Animal welfare is also very important so we would ask that you do not tie your dog up any longer than necessary and we will provide water for the dogs upon request.
Now look what’s back!
That Was The Week That Was
This was the week that Bosham Sailing Club was awarded a £10,000 grant by Sport England from their Small Grants Programme for the purchase of 2 new Club Laser Bahias. A huge thanks needs to go to Barry Colgate who seems to have an uncanny knack for finding and winning these marvellous grants that help to improve your Club in so many ways.
As previously mentioned, your Sailing Club was fantastically busy over the weekend and one of the biggest attractions was Johnnie’s roaring roasts! He cooked and served absolutely delicious food for over 60 people through the course of the lunch time and without exception all the lucky people who enjoyed his roasts said that they were moreishly mouth-watering.
And this one is for some of the Classic Dayboat Medium Handicap fleet. Do you recognise this flag?
