Bosham Sailing Club Weekly Update
‘Tis the season of Class and Club dinners – and the season of lots of events taking place at your Club so please get your diaries out and start saving the days for fun filled frolics, and all things seasonal.
Remembrance on Quay Meadow
In the very appropriate pouring rain and howling gale, Nick Fox our Club President, laid a wreath at the war memorial during the Remembrance Day Service held on Quay Meadow last Tuesday. There were about forty people from around the village who attended the Service, during which we remembered all those who had been killed in conflicts and the names on the War Memorial were read out to the congregation during the Service. Afterwards nearly everybody repaired to the Club for some very welcome coffee, tea and biscuits and much to the relief of some, the bar was open for other even more warming drinks.
Bosham Sailing Club Monthly Lottery
If the tension was palpable last Friday when the Sailing Club monthly draw took place, just think how zingy your Club will be on Friday 12th December when, at 19.31 hrs, somebody is going to become richer than they were at 19.30 hrs. THIS IS THE BIG ONE. The monthly and quarterly draw! Act now. Buy a ticket and you’ll be included in the December lottery. What could possibly be more exciting? See www.boshamsailingclub.com for further details.
That’s mmmmm, as in yummy, or Miranda’s Marvellous Meals or Marvellous Miranda’s Meals. Any way, diners last Friday evening enjoyed a sumptuous meal cooked by our Rear Commodore House, Miranda Powley who fed more than 30 people in a dining extravaganza.
Classic Dayboat Supper
Oh my goodness. What a wonderful evening. 102 Classic Dayboat Sailors sat down to a simply delicious meal cooked by Rosie and Andy Dewing, in a restaurant and marquee beautifully and simply decorated thanks to Adrienne Brown and her team of helpers. Guy Farnsworth, the Classic Dayboat Class Captain, ran the evening with clockwork precision, keeping his speech short (hurrah), prize giving short (hurrah for the winners) and drinking and socialising time, long. Some people clearly got slightly over refreshed, for example, the classic dayboat sailor who spent some time pouring themselves a glass of wine from a bottle with its top still firmly in place. It could happen to any one of us.......
Laying Up Service
Last Sunday we had the Laying Up Service at Bosham Church. Gavin had decorated the Church with our flags and an RS Feva kindly loaned by David Williams. Our Commodore read a lesson and our President led some prayers. Again we were pleased to extend a warm invitation to the congregation to have coffee at Bosham Sailing Club, which thanks to some particularly delicious chocolate biscuits, all our visitors seemed to enjoy.
And to look forward to....
This is your very, very last call for the Dinghy Supper on Saturday 22nd November. This is not just for prize winners – it’s for everybody who has either enjoyed time on the water this season or has done the vital job of helping out with the racing whether as powerboat crew or driver or any of the race officer jobs. It’s a win win situation –everybody will be pleased. You’ll be pleased because you get a delicious 2 course meal for £15 and the opportunity to win £340 (see below!), the prize winners will be pleased because they’ll get louder applause, Fiona MacFarlane, Rear Commodore Dinghies will be pleased because she’s put an astonishing amount of work into this event and Mark our Club Steward will be pleased because he’ll be busy. Win, win, win. Please book via firstname.lastname@example.org by midday on Wednesday 19th November and see the Club website for further details.
