Phew, what a scorcher! The warmest Bank Holiday weekend in years saw the club super busy and the harbour awash with vessels of all shapes and sizes. The glorious weather brought light winds on Sunday for the Bosham Salver, Whitsun Weekend Series and the Optimist Cutmill Series. Monday’s long distance race for the beautiful Clarina Cup was postponed until next Sunday, 3rd June (see below), but the cadets raced the last of the Whitsun Weekend Series and got both races in.
Back on land, we were delighted to meet Team Sophie on Saturday when they talked us through their plans for Tokyo 2020 (gold, obviously!) and how we can support and help them. Sophie Ainsworth and Sophie Weguelin are an inspiring duo whose journey will be fascinating so we’re going to follow their highs and lows and and will keep you updated.

Itchenor Sailing Club is holding its annual regatta on Saturday 2nd June. In addition to its fleet and handicap races, ISC runs separate starts for Bosham’s CDB fleets. Details can be found on ISC’s website at www.itchenorsc.co.uk. Participants can enter at Bosham Sailing Club from 12:00-13:00 on the day or hand their application forms into the office/bar beforehand (during normal opening hours). We are also looking for volunteers to help as Power Boat drivers/crew of the Bosham RIBs that support this event (please sign up on DutyMan or contact the Office).
The CLARINA CUP long-distance race will be held on Sunday 3rd June with a start time of 14:00. This was postponed from Bank Holiday Monday due to a lack of wind. The race is for all fast handicap boats and is designed to reach the parts of the harbour that normal races cannot reach. The current forecast is for near perfect conditions (terms and conditions apply !). As this is a rescheduled race, we are looking for Power Boat drivers/crews for this (please sign up on DutyMan or contact the Office).
The Club’s flagship event is being held on Saturday 14th July and continues a tradition dating back before our formation in 1907. The Notice of Race will be published on-line and in the clubhouse shortly. It does, however require over 50 volunteers to make it a success and if you can help, please check DutyMan or contact David Williams at firstname.lastname@example.org. Volunteers are needed both on and off the water and there’s a suitable job for everyone.
Outboard Engine Store
We are currently undertaking an audit of the outboard engine store in the Raptackle. Unfortunately, many of the engines have not had the stickers affixed and it is impossible for us identify to engines. If you have an engine in the store please can you contact email@example.com to confirm the make, colour and space allocated. Engines which have been abandoned or left in the store without the appropriate fee paid will shortly be disposed of. Thank you for your assistance.
Polish up on those sailing skills before the summer holidays. More of our highly enjoyable Women on Water “WOW” sailing sessions will take place on Fridays 09.00 to 12.30 on June 8th, 15th, 29th and July 7th. For complete beginners, and those wanting to build their confidence, you will sail Bahias with an Instructor on board with the course “Start Sailing.” For those with more experience the Club is offering “Start Racing” using the Feva dinghy. The training website had an error on it, so the cost of either course is actually £120, which include the hire of a club boat, or only £80 if you are using your own boat. Booking are via the link Here, which is the BSC Training website.
Bar Draw – 2nd June 19:30
£320 could be yours!
Katy our Bar Supervisor has today left the Club and we wish her and her family all the very best for the future. Katy has been with us for almost 5 years and had worked her way up from bar staff to Supervisor. She is very sad to be leaving us but has found a new job in a pub only a few minutes from home which will dramatically reduce her travelling to and from work time. She has been a tremendous asset to the Club and will be missed by her fellow staff colleagues and Club members alike, we all wish her the very best for the future.
