Digital wallets out! Racing on Saturday 11th & Sunday 12th will be Bart's Bash, raising money for the Andrew Simpson Foundation (ASF). The Foundation is inspired by Olympic gold and silver medallist Andrew 'Bart' Simpson MBE, sadly lost in San Francisco Bay whilst on America's Cup campaign. The ASF mission is to transform lives through sailing. We hope to be able to amass a sizeable donation from members over the weekend.
Many members will have seen Iain Percy's online talk for Bosham Reach last March. Iain was Bart's gold medal winning helmsman in the Star class and is a trustee of ASF. Members attending the talk were left in no doubt of the passion Iain feels for the foundation and the legacy of his crewman he is committed to preserve for the benefit of those less fortunate. We hope that Iain will be at BSC in person next year for a Finn 70th Anniversary celebration.
In terms of logistics, it's very easy CDB #10 (fast, medium and slow), the first race of Saturday's Oppie Cutmill racing and the first race of Sunday's handicap racing will be classified as our Bart's Bash 'race', in addition to being a standard series race as per the calendar. No special entry is required. Results will be extracted from the race sheets. However, for a sailor's result to count for Bart's Bash they must make a donation in their name on the BSC Bart's Bash donations page here.
Though gps course measurement and race timings, adjusted for handicap, an average speed will be produced for each boat. The fastest average speed will 'win' the BSC Bart's Bash race. All eligible results will be submitted to ASF for collation into a global Bart's Bash 'result'. You must make a donation for BSC to submit your result.
Anyone can donate via our link. So, mention it to your parents, your friends, your children. Share the link and let's make a big Bosham contribution to sailing for all.
