Super Sundays 2021
To enable the BSC cadets to hone their racing skills with Fleet racing in a relaxed and fun atmosphere, with a parent powered supportive and friendly race team.
By running at least 3 Back to Back races for each BSC Cadet fleet; namely Oppie Silver, Oppie Gold, Toppers, and Feva's.
Depending on numbers some classes will share a start.
By using the Cutmill area on the top of the tide we can run races in quick succession, with the ability for the rest of the family to safely spectate from the shore.
5 Sunday's throughout the 2021 sailing season.
11th April is the first one.
Race Course Logic
The logic here is, copying what we have seen work very well at the RS 800/700 National events, to have two committee boats, a start boat in the middle of the course and then a separate finish boat to Port of the bottom mark which competitors reach over to on their last lap. This will enable us to handle far more starts more quickly. We will also run an inner course for the slower boats and an outer for the faster ones to create separation at the marks. Between a finish and your new start boats will be held in a holding areas (with fun games) to keep the start area clear; as and when we are ready for the next fleet to start we send them down to the committee start boat to go into the 5 min sequence.
Safety Boat/Coach Boat
The racing will be for fun with Coach boats on the course to guide and develop all cadets. We are not just coaching the Oppie Silvers we can provide coaching support across all fleets - to help bring up racing skills for all fleets.
We might well zone these boats so we have one at the windward end, middle and leeward end. The leeward end boat will also need to help coral the waiting boats held in the holding area.
Holding area is at the Leeward end of the course to allow for quick and fast starts. Fun to be had while waiting with the Dragonfly and Maddona cup to be contested. The focus here is on having fun while waiting and working on boat skills.
Not for April 11th due to Covid Restrictions.
But at future events. Food available and the Bar to be open. Ideally food that can cater for large numbers BBQ, Hog Roast, Huge Paella etc
If by chance we have a no wind day then rather than cancel, We would like to run the Oppie Olympics for all cadets i.e. run what we did for the Oppie fleet in November with Paddle an Oppie etc. as long as the Club is happy for us to use the Club Oppies. We could even have a Parents team, along with Fleet teams.
This would be a fantastic spectacle and be great fun. It would also mean we can still have a full clubhouse and a great day.
