Optimist
Our aim is to encourage youngsters to learn to sail and then to move through the junior (known as silver) and senior (known as gold) racing fleets.
BSC offers lots of training and courses to help you first learn to sail, then learn to race and finally to finesse your racing skills.
Details of all training courses can be found here
In summary, the club offers the following:
- RYA Stage 1-3 this is for beginners and each course is typically one week
- RYA Start Racing this is for those who can sail but have not yet raced
- RYA Intermediate and Advanced Racing for those who regularly race and wish to improve their skills
As a general rule we would recommend that children do not learn to sail until they are 8 years old although in certain instances it is possible to learn at 7. 8 years is the minimum age to participate in Bosham Junior Week.
Throughout the year, Bosham Sailing Club offers a number of races specifically aimed at the optimist fleet. Full details can be found in the Red Book or on-line. It is important that parents sign-up for duties on Dutyman if your child is racing.
If you wish to participate in Bosham Junior Week, a minimum of 4 races must be completed by the end of May.
I hope you and your children enjoy the sailing and racing we have to offer and look forward to seeing you on the water.
Any questions, please just ask me or the office.
