Sail Training at BSC
In addition to the many RYA sail training courses that we are very successfully running from the Club at the moment, a combined 2 day training course is being offered for Mirrors, Fevas and Toppers, starting on Wednesday 5th August. The cost of this course is £50 to BSC members and £70 for non-members. For more in depth training pre Junior week, why not consider the 5 day RYA Youth Intermediate Racing course? This will be a fun way to get the children sailing again and give them an edge for Junior Week! Participants must know how to sail and have had at least one season’s racing. The cost is £300 if using a Club boat or £250 if using your own boat. If you would like to take part please email email@example.com
Barbecues at East Head
We know how fantastic it is to take a barbecue down to East Head on a warm sunny day, but we all have a responsibility to follow the National Trust’s guidelines for barbecuing as set out below:
BBQ’s are only permitted on the open beach but not in or near the dunes because marram grass easily catches fire.
Please always supervise your BBQ, as East Head becomes busy and BBQ’s are not an obvious hazard to beach users with bare feet.
Please make sure you remove all of the BBQ when you leave, and take care around the hot sand or shingle where the BBQ has been.
Use water to douse and cool the BBQ before moving it, if it is still hot when you are due to leave. Also douse or dig over the hot sand underneath it, as this area will be extremely hot and can cause burns.
These guidelines are being circulated throughout the Harbour and at East Head, so we can hopefully all have safe and enjoyable barbecues.
Saturday Evening Draw
At last our Saturday evening draw has been won and many congratulations to the winner. The draw starts again this Saturday 1st August and the prize is £50. The same rules apply – you have to be a member and in the Club at 19:30 on Saturday. Not a hardship when it’s Happy Hour as well! However the draw will now be capped at £500, which means that if it gets to this amount, it will be drawn until it is won on that particular evening.
BSC Cruisers went en masse to watch the racing in Portsmouth Harbour last Saturday. They were joined there by a number of other BSC members who had gone by RIB to watch the spectacle in great racing weather. However it was unsurprising that the America’s Cup racing committee decided to follow the lead of our Race Officer, when they cancelled the racing on Sunday!
