Well, Happy New Year to you. And already we have got plenty to tell you so it’s onwards with Talks and Transformations!
The Clipper Race 2016 – A Presentation by Caroline Bowen Saturday 7th January 19:30
Many of you will remember Caroline from her days as a very active BSC cadet, and this fascinating talk, takes us through her year as part of this exhilarating race. With rarely heard insights into the day to day running of the yachts, this presentation will take you from the initial training, through the highs and lows of the race itself, to adjusting to life back at home on dry land.
Please come along for a great evening’s entertainment. There is no charge for this talk but please email the office on office@boshamsailingclub.com to let us know how many places you would like reserved.
The Acoustics Project at BSC
Following on from the letter from our Commodore, that you will have received with your subscription invoice, work has now started on the Acoustics Project. For a long time now, this has been one of the bugbears to any event held in our Club. The fact that we are a beautiful old watermill is indisputable, but the fact remains that beautiful old watermills do not necessarily have great acoustics! So, the plan is to rectify this. And this means that both the bar and the restaurant opening hours are affected as this work takes place. As you will have read above, the talk on Saturday is definitely going ahead and should be very well supported. The bar will be open as usual on this evening and the Club draw will take place, but the kitchen will be shut, so food will not be available on this occasion.
The temporary opening hours for the next fortnight, are as follows:
BAR
The bar will be closed at both lunchtime AND in the evenings from Tuesday 3rd January until Monday 16th January inclusive, except for these very important times when the bar will be open:
Friday 6th January (18:00 -23:00)
Saturday 7th January (12:00 – 16:00 and 18:00 – 23:00) Clipper Race Talk
Sunday 8th January (12:00 – 20:30)
Friday 13th January (18:00 – 23:00) Lottery Draw
Saturday 14th January (12:00 – 16:00 and 18:00 – 23:00)
Sunday 15th January (12:00 – 20:30)
Restaurant
The restaurant will be closed until (hopefully, very) Quiet Supper on Thursday 19th January. This means that there will be no food available at the weekends whilst the building work is happening.
Please support your Club and the Bar during these times and remember that the Club reopens properly on Tuesday 17th January in time for the first Bridge night of the year.
The events that have been postponed or cancelled are:
Scottish Dancing Wednesday 4th January
Film Night Monday 9th January
Training
The RYA Yachtmaster Theory course that the 2016 Red Book indicates starts on Monday 9th January, will now be an RYA Day Skipper Theory course starting on Tuesday 24th January and running each Tuesday until 11th April between 18:30 and 21:30.
This is a great way to increase your understanding of ways in which you can practically improve your sailing experience. The course covers many subjects some of which are navigation, anchor work, chart work, tides and tidal streams, meteorology etc.
In order to achieve a productive working environment, places will be limited to 8 people. The cost for members is £185 plus £47.50 for the RYA Training Pack. If you would like to reserve a place, please email office@boshamsailingclub.com
There will be another newsletter next week to let you know how the Acoustics Project is progressing.
Regards
