Ian Proctor Centenary Rally - Classic Boat Revival weekend
Champagne sailing is what the PRO promised and champagne sailing is what the magnificent fleet of classic boats got over the weekend of the Classic Boat Revival. BSC was very proud to host the Proctor Centenary celebration and the annual Revival which has become a fixture in the classic boat calendar and attracted over 80 boats from as far afield as Switzerland. Indeed, one BSC member was so keen not to miss the Sunday racing that he was ribbed out to his Osprey, already up at the start line, and hopped aboard just in time.
If you were lucky enough to be around or taking part you will have seen many very beautiful and much-loved boats around the quay. They’re not just pieces of furniture however, the racing was competitive and fiercely fought over the two days. The event kicked off with a delicious gala dinner, attended and addressed by the Proctor family, and finished with a delicious tea and prize-giving on Sunday at which the youngest crew triumphed in a beautiful Firefly.
It was BSC at its best and here is the thank you received from the Proctor Family:-
“I just wanted to write on behalf of all us Proctors and Davies, to thank you for such a wonderful weekend of celebrations in order to honour the centenary of our father, grandfather and great grandfather, Ian Proctor.
I cannot tell you how grateful and honoured we all felt and will still feel for years to come. Not only was it ‘champagne sailing’ but also a ‘champagne welcome and company’ throughout the weekend. We felt very privileged to be there, and made many new friends amongst you all.
Of course the venue was amazing and the gala dinner an especial treat. Please also can you thank the catering team for us, the food was lovely.
It was such a friendly and relaxed atmosphere, and clearly Bosham SC exhibits the very essence of the very best spirit of sailors and sailing. Marvellous!
With very best wishes from us all
Roger Proctor MBE

Time to get your oar in!
Summer has been a boom time for the Club SUPs – they've hardly been dry – and while Valiant has been out and about (see story below) she is well rested and ready for the inevitable increase in activity over autumn and winter. Nimrod, the sculling Yole, is back from repair and looking very sharp!
To celebrate the start of Valiant's second big season, there will be a Paddlesports Gathering at the Club on Thursday September 20th, starting at 6.30pm. There’ll be a welcome drink and nibbles for £5 (book online), which leads in nicely to the Thursday BBQ (book online). This is a great opportunity for novice rowers find out more about rowing at BSC and get themselves into a crew for a row, and for "old" rowers to compare notes and hook themselves some new talent.
Valiant's big day out
To raise funds for Dementia Support/Sage House, the Aitchison family – Jeremy, Ruth, Cesca and Harry – and friend Catherine Rule– rowed Valiant 18 miles around Chichester Harbour visiting seven churches en route. This stupendous effort raised over £10,500. The crew – even the three who had never rowed before – returned looking remarkably relaxed. The Club donated Valiant for this oarsome water-borne marathon.
