Burhill Sale – update at 15 August 2019
Following our previous notes to members and the meeting on 2 August 2019, we heard this week that the very serious and carefully considered joint offer to Burhill by the Chichester Harbour Conservancy, the Chichester Harbour Trust and Bosham Sailing Club has not been the winning bid and Burhill is proceeding with another bidder. The identity of that bidder has not been disclosed by Burhill.
Although this result is very disappointing for the Club, the Conservancy and the Trust, this is not the end of the road. While we have considered all along that it was important the entities closest to the Harbour made every effort to acquire these properties, we were hopeful that if the offer failed the Club would still be able to reach agreement with the successful bidder to acquire the freeholds of the Club’s premises.
Under the existing Clubhouse lease, Burhill has to offer the Club an opportunity, in a limited time frame, to make a higher offer for that freehold before a sale can be completed with a third party. Burhill has contacted us to initiate that process and we are confident that there is a good opportunity to reach our objective through this route.
We have a lot of work to do in developing this opportunity and you are aware that we will come to members for approval if we consider a contract to purchase should be signed. Please bear with us while we focus on this.
In the meantime, we need your generous support for our appeal. If you have not yet done so, please come forward with commitments in response to our letter sent out last month. Indications of the levels of financial support, in any format, available from members is vital for the Club to be able to formulate its options. If you have questions in this regard, please contact Barry Colgate or me as soon as possible.
