Getting Started

If you're new to sailing, or just feeling a little rusty or nervous, don't worry. We have a multitude of training available to help you get on the water.

Once you can sail, our popular Social Sailing Sessions are a great way to get sailing with like-minded members with the benefit of coaching to help you develop your confidence. Many members also group together informally to arrange day sailing adventures. In 2026 we also plan to arrange Learn to Race sessions.

At weekends there will often be BSC patrol boats covering racing, and the club launch Emma will be running. They won't be specifically be keeping an eye out for you, but they may be on hand to help if you get into difficulties. Just let the office, sailing manager or bosun know that you are intending to go out. You do take to the water at your own risk though.
