BSC Rowing Newsletter 9th April 2026
Now that the clocks have changed, we can reflect upon a successful winter season of racing and look forward to a summer full of events and challenges, as well as sunshine and social rowing.
Well done to everyone who raced in the Celtic and Swift series and the Head of the Harbour regatta. You all did BSC proud!

There are a number of opportunities to take part in events and challenges over the summer months. Some crews have booked boats and are already training for these. There are still boats available for several events so if you have a crew and a cox and would like to hire a boat, please email paddlesports@boshamsailingclub.com
24th April This is the first of Tudor's Friendly Fridays. The invitation is for members of other rowing clubs to race Tudor's Bursledon gigs from their Clubhouse in Langstone Harbour. Names go into a hat and 2 names from each club are drawn and they form part of a crew. It's a lovely friendly atmosphere and the event will take place on the last Friday of the month.
16th May Hamble River Raid- A fun and lively event for fixed seat boats on the River Hamble . Lundy, Bonnie and Belle are all available.
24th May Vogalonga- Valiant is off to Venice for the 4th time. The crew is excited to be rowing in the 50th anniversary Vogalonga.
30th May Ocean to City- Crews are heading off to Cork to row Bonnie and Valiant
28th June Round Hayling Challenge- This race is for all boats. Last year a combined crew from CRAC and BSC set a new record time in a coastal quad ,and in 2019 the "Rum Bunch" returned with a trophy for the fastest St Ayles skiff. Can we repeat either of these, or perhaps there is a Lundy crew who would like to give it a go?
15th Aug Tudor Challenge- A tough 10 mile race for fixed seat boats in Langstone Harbour. We have a veteran women's crew already in training in Lundy, however all our St Ayles skiffs are available.
12th September- Great River Race- A race for fixed seat boats down the Thames , under more than 20 bridges and past dozens of iconic landmarks. Every BSC crew to have done this has come back buzzing, and last year our cadet crew came second in their class. Bonnie, Belle and Lundy are still available.
19th September- Monster the Loch- Monearn and Lundy are returning to Scotland to tackle Loch Ness. Crews are keeping fingers crossed for a repeat of last year's favourable weather conditions!
26th September Head of the Ouse- 10k race on the River Ouse for fixed seat boats, with open and mixed crews racing upstream from Newhaven to Lewes on the last of the flood tide, and women's crews racing back downstream as the tide begins to ebb. We have boats available if any crews fancy giving this a go.

If racing is not for you, members are welcome to hire boats for social rowing as long as you have a competent cox. Please book via the website and remember to read the SOP's. Thank you for washing the boats down after use and reporting any damage.
It is fantastic to see our boats going out on the water so regularly. We would love to be able to increase our fleet by purchasing an additional coastal quad ( like Monearn). If anyone has any experience of fundraising, particularly crowd funding, please get in touch so that we can pick your brains! Please email paddlesports@boshamsailingclub.com
I hope everyone has a wonderful summer of rowing and look forward to seeing you on the water or in the club soon.
