Paddlesports Fleet

Use of all our rowing and paddlesports kit is FREE for members on weekdays (excluding bank holidays), but all craft must be booked out in advance. All users self-certify their understanding of the SOPs for the craft they are using and must be familiar with our 'Major Incident Plan' (see 'Downloads' below). SUP users please note we provide quick release waist leashes for safety in tidal water with multiple obstructions.

Monearn - Swift coastal quad

Our newest addition to the fleet. Built for coastal rowing. With a top crew she can take on some quite serious conditions, but for now we're keeping her limited to F3 and below! She has four rowers and one cox. Its sculling, so two oars per rower. She is built from kevlar and carbon fibre, weighs only 140kg and at 10.7m long she moves incredibly fast.

  • How much? members only: £30 per two-hour session (FREE for members during the week - booking is still essential). Monearn is only available to be hired for self-led rowing by authorised members. Members not yet signed off may currently only use her during coxed and or coached sessions where there is an experienced leader. The fee for coached sessions is £7.50 and coxed sessions are £5.00 per seat.
  • Where is it? In the dinghy park next to the kayak racks
  • What do you need? Four rowers and one cox. The cox must wear a flotation device at all times, and there must be flotation device for all rowers on board (now mandatory), vhf, mobile phone, shoes that can get wet, tight fitting clothing ideally without pockets as these can get snagged when sculling, codes for dinghy and quay gates. Warm clothes for after rowing are recommended.
  • Experience needed? Currently Monearn can only be coxed by authorised coxes with a competent sculler in bow. Sessions for less experienced members are bookable on the website (look for 'Coached' or 'Coxed' sessions.) Basic sculling coaching in Nimrod with Peter or Laura is available to get rowers up to a standard and able to join sessions in Monearn. Depending on how you quickly you pick it up we envisage this being one or two sessions. All users must be competent in self-rescue techniques.

Please familiarise yourself with the SOP for Monearn. It is essential that members understand the requirements for some experience of sculling and that she will only go out in winds up to F3.
