RYA Powerboat Level 2
*** BOOKING OPENS FOR NON-MEMBERS ON 1st MARCH 2024 ***
This two-day entry level course provides the skills and background knowledge required to safely use a powerboat in coastal waters. The PB2 certificate enables candidates to apply for an International Certificate for Operators of Pleasure Craft (ICC) for power craft up to 10m LOA. It is also a requirement for any RYA Dinghy Instructor qualification. At BSC, we recommend that patrol boat drivers are at PB2 standard.
The course focuses on low speed close quarters handling, coming alongside and leaving a jetty or mooring, anchoring, man overboard recovery, an introduction to driving at planing speed, basic navigation and collision regulations. The course is taught by a qualified RYA Powerboat Instructor in centre console ribs, but other powered craft may also be used.
Powerboaters with the equivalent of at least one season of powerboat handling may achieve the PB2 certificate via direct assessment, involving a practical demonstration of their skills and assessment of their knowledge of relevant theory and coastal elements. If you wish to do this, please book a private tuition session.
For more information about the course see this RYA webpage.
Minimum age: 12. (Under 16 year olds receive an endorsed certificate, allowing the holder to use powered craft only under the supervision of a responsible adult.)
