Open Rowing Sessions On Valiant

12th December 2021, 09:30 - 11:00

OPEN ROWING SESSIONS ON VALIANT

Hosted rowing sessions by Peter Haining (Friday's will be run by Class Captain and when Peter is unavailable another regular rower will host the session). These sessions are open to all members of all rowing abilities - whether you're a regular rower or a complete novice. Depending on the ability and appetite of the crew, sessions will range from steady state rows or various fun drills to learn how to row more efficiently.

If you just want to watch? If you're not sure rowing is for you but you're intrigued - you're welcome to book on and join in the pilot seat to see what it's all about - no pressure to row, but an option if you want to! If this is your intention please let the Class Captain know so we can be sure we have enough rowers.

See yourself as a cox? If you fancy a hand at steering and learning to cox, so you're more confident in taking Valiant out yourself - book a space and get in touch with our Class Captain to chat through the detail. Coxes come in all different levels from the very basic steering to more advanced where you're steering but also leading the crew.

How long is each session? Each session is approximately one hour on the water - allow yourself a window of 1.5 for getting Valiant to and from the Dinghy Park.

Rowing etiquette: Arrived in the dingy park on time so we can get on the water as quickly as possible. A general rule of rowing is if you sign up you need to show up and if you can't, please give as much notice as possible and help find someone to stand in - otherwise the entire session may have to be cancelled.

What to bring? A buoyancy aid, plenty of layers and gloves. Expect to get mid-thigh (at most) deep in water for launching. Wet boots or trainers that you're happy to get wet would be perfect. Maybe a flask with a warm / cold drink and a treat to nibble on. Valiant has space for bags so you can change into dry shoes - but do pack light!
