RYA Adult Dinghy Level 2: Basic Skills
This course is split across two Saturdays - 13th and 27th April.
Take the next step, build your confidence and develop your skills to become an independent sailor. This course focuses on boat handling, rigging, launching and sailing in all directions, capsize recovery and essential safety knowledge. By the end of the course you'll be a competent sailor in light winds, able to sail confidently on all points of sail and make appropriate decisions in good conditions. Level 2 is the minimum standard required to be able to hire club boats.
Tuition will be from a qualified RYA instructor with a maximum six students per instructor. Teaching takes place on the water, using club boats, and in the classroom. The precise schedule and boats used will depend on the group, the tide/weather conditions and the requirements of the curriculum.
The course will always aim to cover the full RYA syllabus for each level, but this can be weather and skill dependant. For each level there is a checklist that participants must achieve before they can pass. This is available in the RYA publication G4 - National Sailing Scheme Syllabus and Logbook, which is available free to Level 1 students, or available to buy from BSC here.
Experience required: Participants should have sailing skills and knowledge to the standard of RYA Adult Level 1: Start Sailing.
Minimum age: 16
Cost: £150 (members), £200 (non-members)
