RYA Marine Radio SRC Course and Exam
This course is offered to BSC members only at a discounted rate. The course is run by Emsworth School of Navigation and a minimum of six participants is required for the course to run.
A radio is an important piece of safety equipment on board and it is vital to understand the correct procedures. The Short Range Certificate is the minimum qualification required by law to control the operation of VHF and VHF Digital Selective Calling (DSC) equipment on any British flagged vessel voluntarily fitted with a fixed or hand-held radio. By passing this course, not only will you be legally able to operate a radio on your boat, you will be able to supervise untrained users.
The course covers the basics of radio operation, frequencies, distress, emergency and medical assistance procedures, making ship to shore telephone calls, Digital Selective Calling, Global Maritime Distress Safety System. A short amount of pre-course work is required. The course ends with a written theory exam and assessment in the practical use of marine VHF radios. The fee for this exam is in addition to the course fee and is payable directly to the RYA in advance of the course

Minimum age: 16
Cost: £60 (plus £60 test fee paid direct to RYA). No payment will be taken until the course is confirmed to run.
