RYA Youth Sailing: Start Racing

Recommended age range: 9-15

Entry requirements: Minimum age 9 with sailing ability of RYA Stage 3 is required. Participants must be able to sail a triangular course and be able to be in control of a boat with minimal supervision. Sailors without this level of experience would most likely benefit from our RYA Youth Improvers course.

Cost: Members £120, non-members £160. Two day course.

This course is aimed at giving sailors the confidence, basic skills and knowledge to participate in club racing. To benefit from this instruction, they must be able to at least sail a triangular course in moderate conditions. The course will follow the RYA Start Racing syllabus and cover topics such as race starting, improved tacking and gybing, maximising boat speed, mark rounding, tactics and an understanding of the racing rules.

At the end of the course, successful sailors will be well placed to able to compete in club cadet racing.

Students may use their own boats for this course at own risk (see T&Cs). Club boats (Oppie and/or Topper) will be available to use free of charge.
