Update · 16 May 2025

NOTICE TO COMPETITORS
Chichester Harbour Conservancy have issued a Local Notice to Mariners #09 of 2025 regarding deployment of scientific equipment marked by yellow buoys south east of Stakes Island, requesting mariners keep clear.

For the purposes of racing, these three yellow buoys are obstructions under RRS ‘Definitions’. RRS 19 applies. The area around and between these buoys is not an obstruction but sailors should observe the Notice to Mariners and keep clear of the buoys.

Competitors should avoid hitting these marks, applying RRS 19 where appropriate.

Update · 15 May 2025

Due to nesting birds, competitors must not sail close to or land on the Stakes Island shoreline (W of Cobnor Point). See www.facebook.com/reel/1443533390432494

AMENDMENTS TO NOTICE OF RACE/SAILING INSTRUCTIONS

SI 10.2 is amended as follows:

10.2. The finishing lines and marks shall be the same as the starting lines and marks as described in SI 8.2, 9.3, 9.4 and 9.5, except that the committee boat finish line will be offset to the opposite side of the boat to the start line. The finish ODM will be a white/blue ‘fender’ type buoy.

SI 11.2 is amended as follows:

11.2. The course may alternatively be shortened by a patrol boat stationed at a mark of the course displaying flag G with repetitive sound signals. After rounding or passing that mark, the next leg is altered to be directly to the inflatable final mark, with no requirement to round or pass any remaining course marks, except for the exclusion zone in 8.3 (if applicable) or the ‘goalposts’ in 8.4., rounding the inflatable in the prescribed direction and then to the finish line. If there is no inflatable final mark, boats shall sail directly to the finish line, with no requirement to round or pass any remaining course marks, except for the exclusion zone in 8.3 (if applicable) or the ‘goalposts’ in 8.4., crossing it in the direct navigable direction from the last mark rounded. This amends RRS 33.

Starts/Races:

Per NoR 7.3. the Class Race and Handicap Race categories, start times and warning flags shall be as follows:

Start Time (T) Flag Races
1 & 6 Zero Flag ‘Q’ CDB Fast class race
2 & 7 +5 mins Numeral Pennant 2 Fast Handicap class race
3 & 8 +15 mins YWDB flag Yachting World Dayboat class race
4 & 9 +20 mins Numeral Pennant 3 Medium Handicap, Devon Yawl class races
5 & 10 +30 mins Numeral Pennant 1 Slow Handicap, Chichester Scow, Tideway class races

Start 5 each day shall be from the Quay line (SI 9.3) unless notified at the morning briefing.

Starts 6-10 shall follow directly from the finish of the last boat racing in the relevant Starts 1-5. The race officer will endeavour to follow the same start sequence but reserves the right to alter the sequence depending on circumstances. Competitors are advised to pay close attention to the flag signals and the start number displayed on the committee boat.

The AP flag may be used as an ‘early warning’ of an imminent start sequence.

The Bosham Masters, this year incorporating a Devon Yawl open meeting as well as the Yachting World Dayboat open meeting, is an early season highlight. The Masters is a three-day event open to all BSC sailors aged 18 and over (crews of any age) plus invited classes, and offers plenty of racing and plenty of party fun too. The invited classes are Finn, ILCA (all rigs), Yachting World Dayboat, Devon Yawl. Thanks to generous sponsorship from Stride and Son the entry fees are low and the teas are free. This year thanks to sponsorship from Peak Feeling Ski there's a Friday evening party night that you won't want to miss. The weekend starts with a legendary Thursday Quiz Night and the traditional Masters Dinner on the Saturday evening means a full weekend of sailing and socialising.
