Bosham Reach Talks Series - Harbour Oysters
'Harbour Oysters' is an initiative from Lottie and Poppy Johns, two local sisters, who are installing baskets of the endangered native oysters (Ostrea edulis) under existing pontoons and jetties to help clean the water and boost local biodiversity.
Did you know an oyster filters around 150 liters of water everyday; removing pollutants such as sewage, microplastics, and pharmaceuticals!?
After nearly two years of preparation, in spring 2025, 4,000 oysters were installed at the first site, Emsworth Yacht Harbour, making the BBC and ITV news. We have recently been granted licenses for multiple new sites around Chichester Harbour, and are working with partners to develop other sites around Sussex and Hampshire - where we can further support the good work these wonderful oysters can do
