BSC Dinghy Rescue Training
This is a practical on-the-water session for members who would like to improve their skills and confidence in rescuing boats and people from the water. The session will be run in the club safety boats and cover the dinghies and scenarios likely to be encountered at BSC. Following the session, members should be more competent in their rescue skills and confident in volunteering for patrol driver or patrol crew duty. You do not need to be a powerboat driver to attend this session.
The aim is to offer lots of practical rescue experience, which means that members many at times be required to be physically in the water and around capsized or beached craft.
Minimum age: 16
Experience required: No sailing or powerboat experience is required. Familiarity with sailing boats and their characteristics will be useful. Powerboat drivers should be at RYA Powerboat Level 2 standard. Experienced drivers without the RYA qualification may like to refresh their skills with a private session, where they can also take the PB2 by direct assessment. This is not mandatory.
Student ratio: For safe and useful sessions, numbers will be limited to up to six in two power boats.
Course materials: The 'RYA Safety Boat Handbook' is a useful reference and can be purchased from the club here.
Cost: Free to members only
Book: Please pre-book via 'Tickets' below so we can manage numbers.
