(CB) Coronation Pursuit

Committee Boat Start:

Celebrate the coronation of King Charles III in the best way we know - with a boat race. In this case, a 90 minute pursuit race for all classes, except silver Optimist.

• 13:00 Gold Optimist start
• 14:30 Race ends

Post race there will be a free Coronation Tea for competitors and helpers.

The race is open to all BSC dinghies and all sailors including cadets, although sadly the race will not be suitable for silver Oppies. Having said that there is a high probability that an Optimist will win! Pre-entry is essential so we can plan numbers and sort out starting sequences. Enter free under 'Tickets' below.

For those who don't know, a pursuit race is like a handicap race in reverse. In a handicap race, everyone starts together, sails the course and has their elapsed time adjusted for their boat handicap. A pursuit race is for a set elapsed time, in this case 90 minutes. The slowest boats (Optimist) start first and faster boats start at intervals, depending on their handicap. Everyone sails the same set course, which will probably end up in a loop, and in theory every boat sails to their handicap and ends up at the same point after the time is up. In practice its nothing like that, but it is a sailing version of the tortoise and the hare.

We still need some duty volunteers to help run this event:

• Patrol drivers and crew/recorders to keep everyone safe and to finish boats on the water.
• Tea helpers to prepare the food for hungry sailors post race.
