Guided Walk with Hugh Baggaley - The Birdman

7th February 2026, 10:00 - 12:00

About the walks

Join local ornithologist Hugh Baggaley for a guided walk around the harbour at Bosham to discover the remarkable array of birds found here. On the walk we will be viewing a wide range of bird species, while learning about their lives, habits, and how to find and identify them. Chichester Harbour is an internationally important site for wintering wetland birds including waders, ducks and geese. Many migratory birds also stop off here on their travels, owing to the position on the south coast. The walk is suitable for all levels of knowledge, and no prior experience is required.

Wear warm outdoor clothing and bring a pair of binoculars if you have them.

  • February
  • In February the harbour is still full of wintering birds, but spring is gathering and they will soon be on migration to their breeding grounds. Ducks such as red-breasted mergansers are displaying, while dunlin and brent geese feed and exercise their flight muscles. A diverse array of wading birds such as oystercatcher, redshank, greenshank and curlew can be seen busily feeding in the mudflats.

PLEASE NOTE: Reserve your place by booking below. Payments can be made directly by bank transfer to Hugh OR by cash on the day.

  • £25 Per Person - 2 Hour Walk
