Race Officer - What is it I have to do?

'Preparation is almost everything'

At BSC there is a strong cohort of members who run the racing, often volunteering themselves several times a year. Being part of the race team is a wonderful way to participate in club activities, meet and get to know other members, and its a role that can offer an immense amount of satisfaction.

We are keen to support members who want to help out but are unsure about what is involved or nervous about not 'doing it right'. In particular, we want members to be comfortable in 'stepping up' to fill the role of race officer and to enhance the race management expertise that already exists at the club.

Join Dick Pratt for this free session in the clubhouse on how to be a race officer at BSC. Topics will include

  • Preparation and setting up
  • Who does what
  • Courses
  • Fixed line and committee boat starts
  • Sequences and flags
  • Finishing and back-to-back starts
  • Safety considerations

Anyone interested in volunteering as a race officer, or simply finding out more about what is involved as part of the race team on the Raptackle bridge, Cobnor hut or on Glad Emma, is welcome to attend the session. Please book in advance so we have an idea of expected numbers and level of experience.
