RYA Adult Dinghy Level 1: Start Sailing

Cost: £180 (members), £240 (non-members). Two day course. The non-member surcharge (£60) is refunded for those who join BSC within four weeks of this course.
An introduction to sailing dinghies for complete beginners, covering everything you need to know to get afloat under supervision. The course focuses on learning how to sail in all directions, including an awareness of rigging, launching and recovering. By the end of this course you should be able to sail in light winds under close supervision and be ready to move on to learning about sailing independently.
Tuition will be from an RYA-qualified instructor with a maximum six students per instructor. Teaching takes place on the water, using club boats, and in the classroom. The precise schedule and boats used will depend on the group, the tide/weather conditions and the requirements of the curriculum.
The course will always aim to cover the full RYA syllabus for each level, but this can be weather and skill dependant. For each level there is a checklist that participants must achieve before they can pass.
