RYA Next Steps (Stage 2) in Oppies

Recommended Age: 8 - 11. Older sailors (aged 10-15) may wish to consider our Next Steps in Fusion/Topper course.
Entry Requirements: Minimum age 8 with sailing ability to a minimum of RYA Stage 1 is required. Students who do not have RYA Stage 1 should consider our RYA Youth Beginner courses. If you have already completed RYA Stage 2 then look at our RYA Youth Improvers course
Cost: Members £300, non-members £425. Five day course. The non-member surcharge (£125) is refunded for those who join BSC within four weeks of this course.
This beginner/intermediate course will develop the skills needed to sail effectively and understand the basic principles needed to become a confident sailor. The focus is on developing sailing skills on all points of sail, tacking, gybing, improving boat and speed control, ropework and collision avoidance. We will work towards completing the RYA Stage 2 syllabus. As the course progresses, depending on conditions and sailors' ability, there may be an opportunity to move onto Stage 3 skills.
At the end of the course, successful sailors will be able to launch and sail a dinghy under supervison, both upwind and downwind, have a range of sailing skills and knowledge and be well on the way to becoming a confident and capable sailor. Successful participants will be ready to move on to our Improvers course.
This course runs from 09:30-16:30 and will be taught in club Oppies, available to use free of charge. Older sailors (aged 10-15) may wish to consider our Next Steps in Fusion/Topper.
