Recommended age range: 8- 16
Entry requirements: Minimum sailing ability of RYA Stage 3 is required. This is an ADVANCED course. Participants MUST be able to sail a triangular course, including directly upwind and downwind, and be able to control their boat with minimal direct instruction. Sailors without this level of experience will not benefit from this course and will hinder others.
Cost: Members £120, non-members £170. Two day course. The non-member surcharge (£50) is refunded for those who join BSC within four weeks of this course.
This course is aimed at giving sailors the confidence, basic skills and knowledge to participate in club racing. To benefit from this instruction, they must be able to sail a triangular course with minimal instruction in moderate conditions. The course will follow the RYA Start Racing syllabus and cover topics such as race starting, improved tacking and gybing, maximising boat speed, mark rounding, tactics and an understanding of the racing rules.
At the end of the course, successful sailors will be well placed to able to compete in club cadet racing.
Students may use their own boats for this course at own risk (see T&Cs). Please indicate on your booking if you require a club boat (Oppie/Topper) or your own boat. Club boats will be available to use free of charge.
