This advanced course will follow the RYA Sailing with Spinnakers and RYA Seamanship Skills modules, giving sailors a complete introduction to some advanced sailing skills. As the week progresses, sailors may be able to use these new-found skills in racing scenarios.
Learn how to rig, hoist, gybe and drop/recover an assymetric spinnaker and get the knowledge and understanding to sail the best possible course downwind. Seamanship skills cover launching and recovering the boat in different circumstances, heaving to and reducing sail on the water, recovering a man overboard, anchoring, sailing backwards and in adverse situations such as rudderless or with no centreboard and capsize recovery from full inversion.
At the end of the course, successful sailors will be able to use the spinnaker efficiently and be able to handle a dinghy in a range of more challenging situations. This course would be especially suitable for keen racers and those looking to become a Dinghy Instructor once they are 16.
This course will be taught in the club Fevas, available to use free of charge.
