International success for Bosham sailors

Over the Easter holidays, Zac and Pippa Shepherd took part in the largest dinghy regatta that takes place across the world at the "40° LAKE GARDA MEETING 2022 - Fraglia Vela Riva".

The regatta consisted of 1,093 optimists from 35 different countries taking part in a 12 race series and completed 10 races over 4 days with only 1 discard. After the first 2 days, the optimists were split into Gold, Silver, Bronze, Emerald and Pearl fleets based on their initial ranking. Zac placed 149th qualifying for the Gold fleet with Pippa places 495th making it to Bronze fleet. After a further two days of tough but enjoyable racing, Zac made it to 4th GBR boat at 111th in the 188 strong Gold fleet and Pippa also at 4th GBR boat in the Bronze fleet at 125th out of 190 in this fleet.

Both children had a great time making friends on and off the water and eating plenty of pasta, pizza and ice-cream.

Lake Garda is a truly spectacular sailing location with known Ora afternoon wind averaging 20-25 knots and the lake being surrounded by tall mountains.

Both Zac and Pippa started their oppie sailing in Bosham's very own Cutmill progressing from Silver to Gold fleet at BSC before moving to take part in IOCA events. If anyone is interested in learning more about optimist sailing beyond beautiful Bosham, please contact Sarah or Piers Shepherd.
