BORN OF WAR "A film that should be watched by all ages as a celebration of bravery and endurance" Dame Joanna Lumley
On Sunday 26th November, from 18:00, Marcus Scriven will be introducing and showing a 24-minute 'taster' clip of a cinema documentary about successive generations of men in war and on operations. Emblematic of the experiences of all those who've seen active service, it is told in the words of Welsh Guardsmen from World War II to Afghanistan.
There will also be a very brief clip concerning Rex Whistler, the artist who insisted on being a combatant and who completed one of his final works - using anything he could lay his hands on, including lipstick - at The Old Ship, Bosham. Marcus is looking to secure micro donations or small investments from any BSC members who are interested in supporting the film, whose primary beneficiaries are Combat Stress, BLESMA (The Limbless Association) and the Royal British Legion. Drinks are kindly provided by Centennial Film Ltd.
"This is a film for anyone who has paused before a war memorial and let its message sink in. 'When you go home, tell them of us and say, for your tomorrow we gave our today.' That was Kohima in 1944.
Two and a half millennia earlier it was Thermopylae. 'Stranger, tell them in Sparta, here we lie at their command.'
The same emotions rise up, as, in almost every village in the United Kingdom, we read the names of our dead. They died for us to stay free. 'Born of War' shows us some of them - and some of those who stand ready to do the same" - Sir Tom Stoppard
Places are free, but so we have an idea of numbers, please book your tickets via the BSC calendar here.
