Dominic Akers-Douglas (RC Cadets and on the helm), James Pitt (main), Brian Nixon and Will Francis (up front doing Kite/Jib/Trim) went over to Cowes on 1st July and represented Bosham Sailing Club at the Royal Yacht Squadron's Commodore's Invitational Regatta racing J70s.
13 clubs were represented from England, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. A total of 11 races were sailed in medium winds on the first day and heavy winds on the second day, which was extremely hard work with a lot of bruises to show for it. Races were very quick and intense.
The Royal Cork Yacht Club boat helmed by Anthony O'Leary and his Antix crew (a Cape 31) totally dominated the fleet over the two days and won overall with 7 first places out of 11 races. In second place was the Royal Southern YC with Itchenor SC in a very creditable 3rd place with their boat helmed by Roger Yeoman. Bosham fought valiantly in very tough conditions but luck and events were not on our side.
A huge thanks to RYS Commodore Sir James Holman and his team over in Cowes for a fantastic event and being brilliant hosts over the three days.
