Welcome to the 2023 Racing Season
Published 17:20 on 21 Mar 2023
This Sunday 26th March sees the first races of the season. Where did the winter go? The handicap and Chichester Scow fleets will kick off proceedings from the quay line from 14:30 under the experienced eye of race officer Barry Colgate. Tideways and Optimists come out to play the following Sunday. The first cadet Super Sunday is on Good Friday!! The first classic dayboat race is on 8th April and the first trophy series is on 9th & 10th April.
The Notice of Race and Sailing Instructions for club racing can be found under 'Race Management' at the bottom of the website here. Harbour mark charts are on the 'Race Courses and Marks' page here. Make sure you have your Chichester Harbour fees sticker on your boat.
Please note that the definitive source for race times and start locations is the website 'Calendar' page and NOT the red book. There have been changes and amendments since the red book was printed, so please check the website when planning your racing.
In 2023 the handicap spring and summer series are replaced with three new season-long series:
- The 'Relaxed Racing' series has high tide quay starts with racing in Bosham Channel.
- The 'Harbour Racing' series has mainly (but not exclusively) Cobnor starts and races on harbour courses.
- The 'Sprint' series runs from the committee boat Glad Emma on short courses in Chichester Channel.
This means there should be a handicap race for everyone within these formats. CDB and Scow, Tideway and Optimist class racing continue as usual.
We do need more members to step up and become confident as a race officer. The best way to do this is 'on-the-job'. If you're interested, get in touch with the sailing manager and he'll buddy you up with an experienced race officer to show you the ropes.
