Regional Sailing Championships
On 25/26th 8 Bosham Sailing Club Cadets participated in the RYA's Regional Sailing Championships.
Zac and Pippa Shepherd together with India and Tom Eastwood headed to Weymouth to participate in a fleet of 70 optimists, many of whom are in the GBR team, racing at the National Sailing Academy and all performed strongly.
Also at Weymouth were Allegra and George Massey in their Feva. Meanwhile the Gelosi sisters ventured to the Queen Mary Reservoir at Datchet. All sailors did BSC proud and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
Congratulations to all children for being offered a placed in the RYA Regional Training Squad as a result of their performance. With a total of 8 cadets, this is the largest number of BSC members selected to the RTG in our memory. If anyone is interested in the RYA racing pathway, please feel free to contact anyone of these families.
IOCA Optimist Winter Training
Optimist IOCA training dates are now in the Calendar, starting on Saturday 6th November.
Then to follow: 6th November / 5th December / 16th January / 5th February / 6th March / 19th March
The training will be aimed at those sailors who have previously done some racing and can confidently sail around a course. Strong winds are likely and cold is guaranteed, which should be considered when booking.
On a more positive note, the training will be suitable for those who have recently started racing to those that have had a few years' experience of racing in Optimists. Sailors will be divided into groups to account for a range of abilities.
Each session will focus on improving one element of sailing and racing through developing sailors knowledge and setting problem solving activities on the water. The aim will be to challenge sailors and grow their confidences in a boat by working with groups and individuals to set appropriate activities.
Note: Participants in the winter training will need to be IOCA UK members, for insurance purposes.
