Bosham Triumph At YWDB Nationals
8 boats from the Bosham YWDB fleet travelled to Cornwall for DB Week 2021.
The event was hosted by the Royal Cornwall Yacht Club in Falmouth. The race programme consisted of 5 points races, a long distance race and an 'Opportunity' race for crews and ladies to take the helm. All races were held in the very picturesque sailing area of the Carrick Roads.
With the exception of one day, the weather gods looked very favourably down on us with light to medium breezes and lots of sunshine.
The racing for the 16 strong fleet was superbly managed by principal race officer Neil Hopkins and his very experienced committee boat and mark laying teams.
After an extremely closely fought series, with four different race winners, the final overall result was only decided on the last reach of the last race when Alastair & Jacqui Seaton secured 2nd place and were relieved to see that their nearest adversary for the title, Peter Hewitt, could only manage to finish in 4th place!
Many congratulations to Alastair and Jacqui.
The DB national championships have been held since 1957, and this is the first time that a Bosham boat has won the event. Bosham also excelled this year with 3 club boats finishing in the top 4 places overall.

Devon Yawl Report National Champs
4 Bosham SC Devon Yawls were towed down to the River Yealm last weekend for the National Championships; waving to returning triumphant YWDBs on the road as they went! Over 2 days of racing in varying conditions the 4 crews were challenged by very competitive Devon Crews who regularly race in large fleets of Yawls. Day one saw some fantastic conditions with sun and 10 kts of wind, it was a competitive start line with 24 boats and several recalls and with black flags in force. The sailing was competitive with Eduardo Aldaz-Carroll and Paul Kameen finishing day one in 6th place having scared some local crews! Day 2 Saw challenging conditions with heavy rain and up to 30kts of wind in which Will King and Andrew Morland delivered a very credible 5th place in one race. At the prize giving it was great to see Eduardo and Paul awarded the trophy for highest placed visiting boat a truly great achievement and fantastic end to a brilliant weekend.
