MILL WHEEL UPDATE

Since our last update report there has been a large amount of behind-the-scenes activity.

The results of last year's technical survey carried out by the specialist wheel consultants Curruthers were very positive and with their report the team was able to build a detailed proposal covering all aspects of the performance of the new wheel together with costings and pay back periods.

This report was presented to the Flag Officers earlier this year and was well received. During the round table discussions that followed, a number of questions were raised which focused on the financial return of the project and the integrity of the flow of the Mill Stream to consistently power the wheel.

The team reported back to the Flag officers in the Summer with detailed responses to the questions raised.

These were fully reviewed and last month when the team met with the Commodore. The summary of the Flag officer's response was that whilst they remain in favour of the project in principle, they were not able to give their full support whilst questions remained outstanding on the returns and, most importantly, until there is data demonstrating that the flow rate of the Mill Stream is secure.

The agreed action from the meeting was that the team would monitor and record the flow rates and report the findings over the course of a 24 month period.

WORK PARTY VOLUNTEERS REQUIRED

Notwithstanding the delay to the project, there is a significant amount of clearance work needed to be carried out this Autumn to the Mill Stream adjacent to the club to ensure that it flows smoothly throughout the rest of the year, and we are looking for a small team of volunteers to come along armed with wellies and shovels to carry out the work.

The scheduled date for the work party is Saturday 21st November between 9am – 12pm.

If you are able to help on the day please sign up on Dutyman. Coffee and pastries will be available to keep the energy levels topped up!

Look forward to seeing you on the 21st.
