Dinghy Rescue Training

As we move into the new sailing season we would like to help members improve their skills and confidence in rescuing boats and people from the water. There will be free sessions for members running both on-the-water and in the clubhouse.

The water-based sessions will run in the club safety boats and dinghies and cover the scenarios likely to be encountered at BSC. The aim will be to offer lots of practical rescue experience, which means that members may at times be required to be physically in the water and around capsized or beached craft. The land-based sessions will be more of a social discussion of approaches and methods that can be used to assist dinghies and people in difficulty in the water.

We hope that either session will be useful learning for members to become more competent in their rescue skills and more confident in volunteering for patrol driver or patrol crew duty. You do not need to be a powerboat driver to attend these sessions as the rescue techniques apply to crews as well as drivers.

A shore-based session will be held in the clubhouse:

  • Sat 25th Mar: 10:30 - 12:00

On-the-water sessions will be held on the dates below. Sessions are free to members but pre-booking is required as the numbers on-the-water are limited. Click the links below to book.

Note that these sessions are informal and not a direct replacement for the RYA Powerboat Level 2 and Safety Boat qualifications.
