Junior Week - Environmental Considerations PLEASE READ

FAO JW Competitors and Parents,

RE Environmental Considerations

I hope you are looking forward to Bosham Junior Week as much as I am! I am writing to you about how we can support the environment and the Cobnor Estate during Junior Week 2024.

We are really grateful as a club to Mrs Beale, who owns the Cobnor Estate, for her kindness in letting us host Junior Week at Cobnor once again. It is a beautiful and fun venue and our aim is to look after it as best we can.

What can you do to help?

  • Respect the natural areas around the estate (see map below)
  • - the wild, long grass located behind the dinghy park and the front of Cobnor House is set aside for wildlife only.
  • - Please be careful of the fruit trees in the orchard no climbing/eating!
  • Bring a reusable water bottle and tie it into your boat with bungee in case of capsize. There is a drinking water tap for refilling water bottles at the back of the Kitchen Hut.
  • Recycle your waste including pizza boxes that are lightly soiled. There are recycling bins on site.
  • Waste as little water as possible. There is a hose for washing dinghies at the top of the ramp.
  • Cycle or take the ferry to Cobnor where possible.
  • If arriving by car, please drive slowly and keep to the 20mph speed limit.
  • No BBQs/fires are permitted.
  • Walk around the sea wall at the top of the beach instead of climbing over it.
  • Additionally, please help any Cobnor regular sailors, who would like to launch during the week, by keeping the ramp and path clear where possible.

Environmental Award

Mrs Beale is kindly sponsoring our environmental prize. We are looking for cadets who are thoughtful environmentally - cycle or cycle and take the ferry, who help with keeping Cobnor tidy, join in with litter picks and recycle carefully.

I hope you have an amazing week.

Best wishes,

Laura Kameen - BSC Environmental Office
