Optimist Autumn Activities

The Autumn racing calendar started with a bang for the Optimist class.
The BSC Oppie Open was a huge success, seeing nearly 80 sailors from across the country compete. 37 Oppies raced in the main fleet and a further 38 in the regatta fleet.

For many this was their first experience of the challenging tidal conditions Bosham has to offer.
It also saw more junior BSC sailors advancing into the Main fleet to further test themselves on home waters and make room for those on the waiting list to enter the Regatta fleet.

4 races were completed across both fleets, with Sean di Salle (Gunard SC) taking first overall in the Main Fleet, with no less than four bullets.
Freddie Wilder (HISC) took first overall in the Regatta fleet. Aside from superb sailing both were a credit to their club, with Freddie being called out by other sailors for his encouraging words to others whilst out on the race track.

BSC club sailors represented the club superbly, not only with competitive top tier sailing but also great sportsmanship on and off the water.
Oscar Stephens took home the Optimist Club Champion trophy as the leading Bosham sailor in the Main Fleet and Sky Hamilton took home the Cutmill Cup as the leading Bosham sailor in the regatta fleet.

Following on from this success we also saw our cadets head over to Emsworth for their Open and to Chichester Yacht Club for theirs.
Oscar Stephens represented the club admirally at both, coming in second in the main fleet at Emsworth and taking home the challenge trophy at CYC coming first overall, with Seb Bramley coming 6th at Emsworth and 3rd at CYC.
Harriet Lister did superbly to come 4th out of 23 competitors in the Regatta fleet at Emsworth. With Archie Boulter, Fergus Goble and Charlotte Clay also representing Bosham well in some very light (and sunny) conditions.
It is a great sign to see our young sailors heading out of the club and challenging themselves on the wider Oppie Circuit.
