RC Cruiser Race Weekend

Published 14:08 on 12 Oct 2022

The RC Cruiser Race weekend was held on 8/9 October; one race round No Man's Land Fort and the other round some marks in the Eastern Solent. The weather for the 9 boats who went round the Fort on Saturday was sunny but with a challenging mix of light wind and quite strong tides.

A number of boats had some interesting experiences getting round the Fort and on the return leg some, including us on Selene, also managed to get tangled up with the Horse Sand Fort just for good measure. It was really good to have boats from other clubs join us and the race was won by Peter Tart on Gypsy Girl (HISC).

The Sunday race was held in full sunshine with sparkling water and a decent breeze; having those conditions in October was really amazing. However, life on the anchored committee boat in nearly 20 knots of wind was 'interesting' with our keel on show from time to time.

Mark Upton-Brown's (BSC) trimaran showed everyone such a clean pair of heels that he won line honours and the race overall despite giving the rest of the fleet a lot of time under the handicap system. A special mention to Chris Gallagher (BSC) and his crew on Mandamus who completed the course despite various setbacks and had maximum enjoyment of the glorious conditions. Sadly the handicap system wasn't able to lift his elapsed time to challenge our worthy winner.

Thank you to Tony Tompkins for preparing the results.
