Bosham Feva Open
The Bosham Feva Open took place on Sunday 6th, June. Despite a very light wind forecast, fourteen Fevas made it out into the harbour and the wind gods took pity on use and gave us 7-10kts of breeze. This allowed for some excellent racing with plenty of lead changes over the upwind and downwind legs. The harbour was surprisingly quiet so the racing could take place without much interference from other sailing and motor boats. The winning boat was Finlay Clarke and Tristan Harding from Frensham Pond SC with four straight bullets. Alice and Silvia Gelosi were the leading BSC boat in 3rd place. Congratulations to all the boats that took part.

Nab Tower Race 13 June
Well, it was worth waiting for! After two years of no race and then a postponement in May it was wonderful that Sunday dawned sunny and with a gentle breeze although not quite enough for all 22 entrants to finish.
Alastair and Sandy Johnstone very kindly ran the starts from their splendid motor launch Mistral. The fast fleet led the way, with the first 4 boats making it to the Nab Tower in one tack. The wind slowly dropped, the tide began to build and for some of the slower boats getting round the tower took longer and longer. The teenage crew who jumped ship onto our rib avoided returning with the rest of their crew at 8pm!
There was some close racing. The first two boats finished less than a minute apart with Line Honors going to Bosham's Julian Trumper in True Colours (Grand Soleil 43). Hamish Griffiths, with his crew of RS700 sailors, took first place in Delirium (Dufour 34), True Colours was second, in a HISC sandwich, with Nick Peters on Mojito (Dufour 40e) in third place. However, regardless of the results everyone basked in the fabulous sunshine which was such a welcome change from so much of this summer's weather.
Sunday was also a great day for the BSC Optimist Open regatta which had 90 boats competing. As the cruising fleet made their way out of the harbour for the start I did find myself wondering how many of those young sailors would be future cruiser skippers or crew in years to come.

BSC Optimist Open
On Sunday, BSC was delighted to host its annual Optimist Open event. After the 2019 event was cancelled due to COVID-19, this years event saw a record number of 90 Optimists attending from all over the South coast and as far away as Wales!
Bosham catered for everyone and whilst there were numerous members of the British Sailing Team and National Squad participating, there were also many for whom this was the first major event. The 90 boats were divided into two fleets, a Main/Gold fleet for the more advance, competitive sailors and the Regatta/Silver fleet for the younger, more novice sailors.
The armanda of 50 main fleet boats arriving in the glorious sunshine from both Hayling Island and the Bosham Channel to the Committee Boat just off the Thorney Reach was an impressive sight to see. Sailing conditions were tricky with light winds and a strong tide, compounded by the fact that the tide changed during the day. Piers Shepherd, Principle Race Officer expertly managed to give the sailors 4 excellent races and the overall winner was Sabine Potter from Royal Southern YC.
The 40 Silver/Regatta fleet Optimists racing from Cobnor also put on a fabulous spectacle for both local and travelling parents in Sunday's glorious sunshine The triangular course they started with singled out a clear favourite, Jonny Rogers from Royal Lymmington YC, who went on to win the series.Prior to race 2, lightening wind conditions on a rising tide kept the rescue boat team busy retrieving sailors who were determined to put in an impromptu trip down the channel to discover the delights of Bosham. The Race Officer, Barry Colgate, did a great job adapting to the conditions, thereby ensuring that we got in a further two races within our allotted race window. All 14 BSC boats did fantastically well and, for many of them, it was the first time they had raced from Cobnor so gave them some much needed experience before the eagerly anticipated Junior Week!
Duncan West, RYA High Performance Manager drove from Exeter to be with us for the day to watch the silver/Regatta action and to chat to lots of parents. Duncan was impressed with the wonderful sailing venue that Bosham offers for the Optimists and the friendly and family orientated vibe that the club represents.
Huge thanks go to all the BSC volunteers who all made a massive contribution to the days success and special thanks goes to the main event organisers, Tia Bedford, Optimist Class Captain and Piers and Sarah Shepherd for all their hard work behind the scenes to make the day happen.
