Henry King and Sebby Bramley Selected for GBR Junior Team
Henry King and Sebby Bramley both beat stiff competition at the Optimist Spring Championships, held at Draycote Water Sailing Club on 1415 March, to earn places on the GBR Junior Team (for sailors aged 12 and under). They will travel to Quiberon, France, to compete in the French National Championships from 410 July.
The Junior Team consists of 16 sailors selected from the IOCA UK Spring Championship results, with a minimum of five sailors from each gender. The French Nationals attract competitors from across the globe and are renowned for providing a highly competitive fleet. This is a fantastic achievement for both boys and a clear demonstration of the talent emerging through Bosham Sailing Club.
The Championships saw 121 boats competing. Saturday provided light and shifty conditions, while Sunday brought stronger winds, with gusts reaching 28 knots and resulting in a high number of retirements. Having followed a structured winter training programme and sailed at Bosham Sailing Club whenever possible, both Henry and Sebby developed the resilience and skills needed to achieve their goal.
Well done, boys! We will be following their progress and results with great interest.
Oscar Stephens Selected for GBR Development 2 Team
Oscar Stephens has secured a place on the GBR Development 2 Team and will travel to Lake Garda, Italy, for the Halloween Cup from 2731 October.
Sixteen sailors are selected for the Development 2 Team from a national selection event, which took place between 912 April at the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy. Sixty-five sailors, including Sebby Bramley and Felix Gladman, were invited to attend. Competitors raced three races per day in a variety of conditions, both in Portland Harbour and on the Olympic course in Weymouth Bay.
The event provided a real test of versatility, with sailors experiencing a full range of weather and sailing conditions. Team places were awarded for the World Championships (Tangier, Morocco), European Championships (Gdynia, Poland), Development 1 Team (Palma, Mallorca) and Development 2 Team. With limited places available, not every sailor secures a team position, making the selection process particularly challenging.
Oscar dedicated countless hours to training over the winter, travelling to Weymouth and Portland, Lymington, Parkstone, Hamble, Palma and Torrevieja for a mixture of training and competition. His selection is a testament to his commitment, determination and passion for the sport.
Special Mention for Felix Gladman
We would also like to make a special mention of Felix Gladman, who has been an outstanding mentor and ambassador for many of Bosham Sailing Club's Optimist sailors. Felix has consistently offered encouragement, support and guidance, always delivered with a smile and a few well-timed jokes even when spirits were low and sailors were busy chipping ice off their Optimists during winter training sessions. Felix will now be sailing a 29er and Waszp a Superstar in the making.

Thank You
Finally, a huge thank you to everyone who has contributed to the success of our Optimist sailors.
In particular, thank you to Kit and Ben, our Optimist Class Captains, for the enormous amount of time and effort they dedicate to the fleet and for leading by example. Thanks also to Mike Storey for organising racing and course programmes that have enabled these sailors to develop their skills and progress through the club, with all three boys starting in the Silver fleet before advancing through the ranks. And Dom Akers-Douglas, RC Cadets, for always promoting the ongoing success of the Cadets within the club.
We are also extremely grateful to the Bosham Youth Fund for its continued support of sailors representing the club at both National and International level.
Congratulations once again to Henry, Sebby and Oscar. We wish them every success as they represent both Great Britain and Bosham Sailing Club on the international stage.
